First, I apologize for the late response. Your comment was in moderation with hundreds of flagged comments. It sort of got lost in the shuffle.

I think you may be referring to the translation rather than the actual text. Since you did not post the translation that you used we will take a general approach.

No translation is perfect. While some are far worse than others in a literal word for word translation; a good thought for thought translation can add context. However at times when we need or want to know the true meaning of a word, we must fall back to the original languages.

The bottom line is that we need to understand the original language(s). We have a Greek written set of manuscripts for the Apostolic Scriptures ("new testament"). However, they were written in ways that strongly suggest that they were translated from Semitic languages. At the very least the structure suggests that the person thought with a Semitic language mindset.

That being said, I will leave you with some input from my colleague Erik, who graciously researched this while I could not get to my concordance. Hope it helps. Shalom!

The Greek word used is:
Keitos, Strong's N 2785. Literally 'big or very large fish', 'big sea creature'. In NT 'keitos' is used only once.

Ok, here is my question. I too am a messianic Jew. Where are all my brothers (and sisters) with the long hair and tattoos? I would love to find a group fellow believers in Yeshua that like the same music as me. Any ideas?

Oh CONGRATS Shane and Christin, she is absolutely beautiful!

I am so sorry to hear about the bad surroundings you endured during labor. I can so empathize. I am so thankful to hear that everything turned out wonderfully though.

Thank you for explaining her name, and her sister's... how creative and lovely they are. Leah and Hannah were both names that we considered. :)

Congrats! Is the name pronounced with a long "i" or a short "i" for the first name? Congrats again and sorry to hear of your hospital experience. What hospital was it? You can email me that answer if you choose to.

I find it interesting that whenever I see someone on the internet making statements about evolution, they always try to make it seem exactly like whatever religion they subscribe to.

It seems as if the best way to disprove evolution in an argument is to draw paralles to whatever you believe in. This seems counterintuative to me.

That, and after someone at least makes an intelligent argument against evolution, you get lots of idiots coming in who have no idea what the concept is trying to prove it wrong like "well why didn't my parents have an ape instead of me" and the like.

You have every right to your beliefs, but that right doesn't make you look any less like an idiot.

You have some good points in there. Perhaps though you should read more thoroughly. I don't support the Christian ideologies of the masses. No pun intended. However I do believe there is One God and I believe that invites all to Him.

The very nature of the concept of God is that God is in charge, not people or the majority. Therefore I do believe there are rewards for those in covenant with God. I do not believe in the Greek mythological view of an eternal, burning, tormenting, hell. I have yet to see this concept in Scripture, no matter what Seminary students have been told.

I know the site that you are all coming from is hell-bent (pun intended) on bashing Christians. I would suggest that you should come up with different arguments for this site. I do not support 90% of Christian dogma.

I am discussing the fact that this symbol represents a man's bigotry and those that adorn their cars with it are proud of their racism.

You cannot point out the errancy of the crusades (which are deplorable) and think that this some how justifies your own display of hate!! That is ridiculous! Let me clue you in, BOTH are wrong, BOTH are arrogant, BOTH should be corrected.

I do not support "the church", Rome or any of the disgusting atrocities in "the name of God". I also do not support the idea that people of different races or genders are more evolved than another.

Plus stop trying to point out the hypocrisy of another group as a means to continue your own! It is poor, poor logic.

Shalom.

Such statements on acceptance and racism are rich coming from a religion that brought us such historical fiascos as the Crusades... Not to mention how you view those who follow other teachings or ways of life... ("We're right, you're wrong, you're all going to Hell and it's because you chose the wrong god. All men were created equal and God loves all his children, unless of course you happen to be Muslim, Buddist, liberal or gay. Oh, and a woman's place is in the home, barefoot, pregnant and chained to the stove.") Hoorah for Christianty's skewed perspective on equality!

Have a nice day.

I think you missed the whole boat, Rudy. I am well aware of what SOME have made a "monogram" for Iesous Hristos in Greek or more accurately in Hebrew, Yeshua HaMashiach. Mashiach and Christos meaning Messiah or Anointed One.

I am not claiming the x in x-mas takes away or adds anything. I think stops at Latin and German have made terrible translational errors. My article clearly says that I think it is ridiculous; as is "christmas" itself.

I doesn't amaze me that atheists know more about christianity that christians. (I keep telling christians that atheists and pagans know more than they do.) I wish it did amaze me.

Shalom. (Peace)

I am astounded by your ignorance! The "X" in X-mas is not an attempt to take "christ" out of Christmas the "X" is an abbreviation for christ. The "X" comes from the Grek letters chi and rho which in the latin alphabet are represented as a "P" and an "X" and is the monogram of Jesus the Christ.
It always amazes me that we atheists seem to know more about christianity then most christians.
Try to study some before going off half cocked!
