What’s in Your Playlist?

June 19th, 2005

I haven’t quite jumped on board with the iPod craze, exactly. I do however use an iPAQ PDA for work and I have loaded it with about 1 Gig of MP3’s to carry with me wherever I go. My PDA has so many uses (alarm clock, calendar, phonebook, e-mail, Pocket NES game system, etc.) that it just seemed like a waste to purchase yet another piece of equipment for music.

I found out, surprisingly, that iPAQ’s are known for their great sound. The bass boost and treble adjustment on the default iPAQ setup using Media Player is very impressive indeed. To make matters much better I installed WinamPAQ which is Winamp for PocketPC’s. It functions just like Winamp and even uses the same skins. Using WinamPAQ adds a graphic equalizer and the ability to make adjustments to the mp3ogg settings. The sound is great and the PDA can be connected to a PC, home or car stereo. So, while my wife carries her huge suitcase full of cd’s, I carry a portable playlist.

So what’s the point of this post? Two things: 1.) It gives me a chance to indulge my geek side. 2.) It gives me a chance to ask you, what is in your playlist? Whether it’s a portable, your home PC, or just a bunch of cd’s thrown in the back seat of your car… tell me what you’re listening to. My current playlist is below.

Hi, this is totally irrelevant to this post, but I noticed your “Messianic Believers” blogroll and was just wondering what that meant. Does it mean Jewish believers or believers (of any race) who are part of a Messianic congregation? I’m the former but not the latter. Just curious…thanks!

Hi Marla, that title for the links formerly said “Christian Believers”. I’m not a huge fan of that title. The new title simply means believers of HaMessiach (The Messiah), but more specifically believers in Yeshua (Jesus) as the promised Messiah of Elohim, the God of Avraham, Yitzchak (Isaac), Ya`akov (Jacob).

This started from an article I compiled on the Helenization of Hebrew names in the English translations of the B’rit Chadashah (New Covenant). The article, The DiVinity Code goes over this at length. I admit, given there is an actual sect called Messianics this may be a little confusing. But, I think it is less confusing than “Christians” which seems to imply the birth of a new Gentile church to which Sha’ul (Paul) needed to convert after Shavuot. I am of the belief that we (gentiles) are grafted in (Romans 11) and become “sons of Avraham” (Gal. 3:7)and “heirs according to the promise” (Gal 3:29) as ” it is from the Jews that salvation comes” (John 4:22).

For you are all sons of Elohim through belief in Messiah Yeshua
    Gal. 3:26

    Shalom. Shalom.

    Hi Marla,
My name is Erik and I am a Messianic Jew. I believe and practice Messianic Judaism. Messianic Judaism is a movement of physical Jews and physical Gentiles who believe in Yeshua HaMashiach(Jesus The Christ). We practice our belief Biblicaly, which is Jewish manner. We believe that we who are Jews become complete spiritual Jews when we accept Messiah; we do not stop being Jews when we become accept Yeshua(Jesus). Most Christians and non-Messianic Jews believe that if a Jewish person accepts Yeshua(Jesus) he stops being Jewish and becomes a ‘Christian’. Neither side sees accepting Yeshua(Jesus) as the completion of Judaism and the most Jewish thing I could do. Instead typically, both Christians and non-Messianic Jews see the coming of The Christ as the beginning of a new religion. This is incorrect. I did not join the ‘church’. The ‘church’ today , typically does not look much like the 1st century Messianic Jews and Gentiles who loved and believed in Yeshua(Jesus), and it has very little left that is Jewish. Why and how did this happen? Where is the ‘Jewishness’ in the ‘church’? It lacks the Jewish sense of community that God gave our people. The difference can be summed up one way, by this simple question. Do you see the B’rit Chadasha(The Renewed Covenant), what many call the New Testament, as the completion of Biblical Judaism or the beginning of ‘Christianity’?

May my post spark thought and questions,
May Adonai bless you through His Yeshua HaMashiach(Jesus The Christ),
    Erik

Ok, here is my question. I too am a messianic Jew. Where are all my brothers (and sisters) with the long hair and tattoos? I would love to find a group fellow believers in Yeshua that like the same music as me. Any ideas?
