Sabbath: Another Approach
June 10th, 2005This is a subject that, for me, has been studied over and over and over… Early in my learning of this “cultish” practice of Sabbath keeping I was extremely skeptical. Certain arguments both for and against made no sense to me. Many times it caused me to rethink or even question whether I had made the correct decision. Every time I thought I had a handle on all the arguments, a new one would pop up and catch me unaware. I would have to squirm out of the conversation and go research the text. This was actually very helpful in reaffirming that the truth of His Sabbath is just that, truth.
Ironically, some of my final convictions for Sabbath keeping came from Sunday observant Christians. Listening to some Sunday Pastors preaching on the “Ten Commandments” actually proved the case for Sabbath more than the SDA (Seventh Day Adventists). The idea of preaching on the value of keeping the commandments and then thinking to replace one of them (the fourth) is so illogical that it actually does more to support Sabbath the Sunday-keeping pastor even understands.
What amazes me is so many times when we testify or minister, we pray for our Lord to guide our words. We ask that only His words be spoken. If we truly mean this, when we then start speaking, do we, ourselves listen? I have heard pastor’s pray for such guidance and then not listen to what they are saying! They build a case for the commandments with their own lips, and then assume control, making both jumps in logic and assumptions of context. It becomes support of doctrine rather than commandments.
If you skip anything in this post please read this paragraph. The Scriptures are Jewish!! They were never, ever, no matter how much anyone wills it, intended to directly support Gentile Christian denominations of any kind! The Bible is ONE Jewish book from Genesis to Revelation. There is ONE God and that God is the same in the “Old Testament” as the “New Testament”. The Bereans (Jews) used the “Old Testament” to prove Sha’ul’s (Paul’s) words on the Gospel! The “New Testament” was not written yet and this should cause “New Testament Churches” to stop dead in their tracks! They must ask themselves if they could prove their beliefs from the “OT” as did the Bereans who were described as of nobler character. The Apostles were Jews, the Covenants were made with Jews, the “Last Supper” was a Jewish Passover (not “communion”), and our Messiah was a Jew. A Jew is and was saved by faith in Messiah and does not need to “convert” to Christianity. Additionally an unbelieving Jewish person is just as unsaved as an unbelieving Gentile.
