Torah, Torah, Torah
December 30th, 2005There are so many denominations today with endless variations of doctrine. Why? One reason is because Christians (”new testament Christians” especially) are without Torah (first five books of the Bible… The Law). They do not read Torah in “church” and they do not teach it. The “new testament” gives examples of people reading from The Law and The Prophets in synagogue, yet what christian church does this? People reading and learning Torah perpetually; are counted as doing well. What christian church does this? This may shock you or maybe you never sat down and really thought about the early “church”, but… THERE WAS NO “NEW TESTAMENT”!
I have to fight the chuckles every time I hear a sermon asking “what would Jesus do” or preaching that “we should be like Paul”. I challenge every christian church to make good on this. Read Torah readings with the same schedule as the Jews have done for thousands of years! Week by week… all year long… repeated every year! I could tell you that reading and teaching Torah to your children is a commandment, but that probably is one of the commands, “nailed to the cross” or is “against us”. (Along with helping the needy/poor, a commandment to read His Will really sounds like it is legalism!) Instead, why don’t we just examine what the “new testament” writers wrote of Torah.
Act 17:2 And according to his practice, Sha’ul went in unto them, and for three Sabbaths was reasoning with them from the Scriptures
What Scriptures? … Torah!(and/or all of the TaNaKh)
Why? … The “NT” wasn’t written yet!
Act 17:11 Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonike, who received the word with great eagerness, and searched the Scriptures daily, if these words were so.
What Scriptures? … Torah!(and/or all of the TaNaKh)
Why? … The “NT” wasn’t written yet!
2Ti 3:15 and that from a babe you have known the Set-apart Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for deliverance through belief in Messiah Yeshua. All Scripture is breathed by Elohim and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for setting straight, for instruction in righteousness,
What Scriptures? … Torah!(and/or all of the TaNaKh)
Why? … The “NT” wasn’t written yet!
Torah, “profitable for teaching, for reproof, for setting straight, for instruction in righteousness”? Can I get a witness!?!? It’s worth reading that sentence ten times!
You cannot understand Romans without understanding Torah. I need to repeat that. No matter how much you have studied with a gentile perspective… no matter how much you dislike the sound of it… you cannot understand the Rabbi/Pharisee Paul, who said “I am (not ‘was’) a Pharisee” without understanding Torah. You cannot understand Galations, Ephesians, Acts, Colossians without understanding Torah. You cannot… can… not… get this understanding from a $50,000 gentile-minded cemetary seminary degree. This will ruffle some feathers… you cannot understand the Gospels (fully) without understanding Torah.
“Churches”, please stop worrying about what men teach (cathecisms are read more often than Torah in churches) and read His Torah every Shabbat (Sabbath)! Be of more noble character like the Bareans! Be like Paul!
What I mean is this, that each one of you says, “I am of Sha’ul (Paul),” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Kepha (Peter),” or “I am of Tyndale,” or “I am of Luther,” or “I am of Calvin,” or “I am of Wesley,” or “I am of White,” or “I am of Willowcreek,”…
