Open Letter to Darwin Fish Owners

December 29th, 2005

Dear Darwinian,
Please first understand that this letter is not to dispute over the theories of Darwin. Although, that they have been proven to be in error and still remain as fact in many textbooks is troubling, that will be a topic for another time. Thankfully paleontologists already confirm his erroneous theories are simply fables. This letter is to discuss the symbol of your religion: the Darwin “fish”. Yes “religion”, as you have greater faith than I to believe that random chance created the intricate and delicate balance of the universe all from an exploding speck of dust.

What you may not have known when you bought your charming, legged, fish is that it is a symbol of hate. It is more racist in its creation than a burning cross or swastika. Simply because, the symbols mentioned are perversions of their peaceful and spiritual origin. Your fish however was created specifically to reflect (worship) on Darwin’s (your prophet) theories about the omnipotent one: time (your god).

At this point I am sure you greatly concerned, as you never intended to be a bigot or a sexist. You were simply demonstrating your pride of your heritage (a chimp, I believe?). This probably seems no different than anyone displaying a flag of their heritage or even the “Jesus fish”. (I personally am not a big fan of this “emblem” either, as it has become synonymous with poor or rude driving) However, please consider the full content of this letter.

First, there is a misconception about the title of Darwin’s book, “The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection“. This is, in fact, half of the truth. The full title to Darwin’s book is, “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life“. Did you catch that? “Favored Races”? Adolph Hitler certainly did, hook, line and sinker. Adolph was very much interested in and influenced by Darwin’s work.

Maybe the title alone is not convincing enough that you might be poorly representing your evolutionary theology. Let’s examine an excerpt from a letter written by Darwin in 1881:

The more civilized so-called Caucasian races have beaten the Turkish hollow in the struggle for existence. Looking to the world at no very distant date, what an endless number of the lower races will have been eliminated by the higher civilized races throughout the world

This instance was not an anomaly among Darwin’s writings. This idea of superiority among races was reiterated in his book The Descent of Man:

At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilized races of man will almost certainly exterminate and replace the savage races throughout the world.

It is this type of inane racist banter that fuels butchers like Adolph Hitler and Karl Marx. Their philosophies powered by evolution led to the destruction of millions of so-called “subhuman” Jews and Christians respectively.

The racist statements you are supporting are hidden only to the uneducated (on this subject). Unfortunately that lack of education and awareness stretches so far that the very people that flaunt the Darwinian fish emblem are most likely unaware. This is precisely the reason for this open letter appeal.

To further illustrate the bigotry being displayed and the deception of those using this “religious” symbol, I was surprised to notice several females with it adorning their vehicles. That is not to say that women cannot be racist but rather, one would think they would not be sexist… against women!

Again in The Descent of Man we find a startling admission of Darwin’s view of women under the subheading “Difference in the Mental Powers of the Two Sexes”:

…the chief distinction in the intellectual powers of the two sexes is shewn by man’s attaining to a higher eminence in whatever he takes up, than can woman –whether requiring deep thought, reason, or imagination, or merely the use of the senses and hands…. We may also infer … [that] the average of mental power in man must be above that of woman.

While my own religion, which is that of The Messiah, teaches of the equality of all humanity; it is one that is mocked by the many Darwinians. While again I must reiterate that this is not an evolution vs. creation debate. (Thankfully, science has already proven evolution an unworthy candidate.) This is however an appeal to understand the symbol you so proudly display of your prophet. It is much more than a symbol of chimp-like ancestry. It is a logo of hate, sexism and bigotry. Please won’t you give up the hate and join the rest of the enlightened world?

Yours because I am His,
Shane
